6+ Reasons: Why a Home Solar Power System?

1. Reduce Electricity Bills
Your solar panel system will produce free power during its lifetime of 25 to 35 years. This will reduce your monthly electricity bill by a big margin over that period. If you install a system with batteries in order to cater for 100 percent of your electricity needs you will actually eliminate your electricity bills entirely.

2. Get a High Return on Investment
The solar panel cost is more of an investment than an expense since it will pay for itself and continue saving you money. By simply dividing the cost of your solar installation by the monthly savings you make using solar you can determine what your payback period is likely to be. On average most homeowners achieve a payback period of eight years or less. Their return on investment (ROI) is at least 20 percent.

3. Tax Credits from Your Home Solar Power System Investment!
The Federal Government offers rebates to promote use of solar energy. You most likely qualify for a 30 percent federal investment tax credit. This means that you can deduct 30 percent of the cost of your system when computing your taxes. Depending on where you live, you may get additional tax credits and other incentives from your state or utility company. Some of these tax credits had expiration dates. You will be advised by the supplier or your state office what is still applicable in your state.

4. Safeguard Against Rising Energy Costs
You can use solar panels to cushion yourself against the rising cost of utility prices. On average the cost of electricity has increased by 3 or 4% increase per year from 2006 to 2013 according to U.S. Energy Information Administration (see graph). A solar system will shield you from such increases.

5. Increase the value of your property
More than 90% of the cumulative growth in residential solar installations (PV) has occurred in the last 10 years (see graph). If you are building a new house then you must really consider solar. According to some studies, houses with solar installations have high property values and are more attractive to buyers than houses without. Demand for houses with solar installations is therefore likely to continue growing.

6. Better for the Environment
All humanity collectively has a responsibility of taking care of Mother Nature. Solar technology assists in reducing the pollution that results from carbon emissions. According to previous studies a typical residential solar photovoltaic system (PV) will eliminate three to four tons of carbon emissions per year.
